VISA INFORMATION: TRAVEL GRANT INFORMATION: (now closed) AIRPORTS: The three primary airports serving the San Francisco Bay Area are: San Franscisco International Airport (SFO) in south San Francisco [approximately 12 miles], Oakland International Airport (OAK) located in Oakland [approximately 18 miles] and San Jose International Airport (SJC) in San Jose [approximately 47 miles.] Both SFO and OAK are serviced by the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system. In addition to rental cars and taxis there are numerous private companies providing shuttle service to and from each airport (please see the ground transportation links on the airport web-pages for additional information.) PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION: Parking can be a bit of a challange in the city (city parking information can be found on the DPT website.) Many areas of the city, including Union Square, are within easy walking distance of the Moscone Center. San Francisco is well known for its hills, so do be aware that there may be some uphill climbs between neighboring areas; note that Union Square is a bit uphill from the Moscone Center. Public transportation within San Francisco is quite good. BART provides convenient regional service, Muni Metro offers lightrail and bus service throughout the city, in addition Caltrain offers service from 4th and Townsend to the South Bay area.
GRADUATE STUDENT ATTENDEES: IMS is a wonderful oppertunity for students to meet and interact with fellow students working in related fields, as well as to take in all the information presented in the technical and poster sessions while also meeting leaders in the field from both academia and industry. In addition to the student paper contest (PDF) the second annual student High Efficiency Power Amplifier Competition (PDF) will be held at IMS-2006. If you are a graduate student who will be attending IMS-2006 please sign up for the IMS-2006 students message group hosted at yahoo groups. Use this site to post questions reguarding the conference or the city in general. You can also utilize this message board to find potential room-mates or plan to meet with other students. Dr. Pham, a professor at UC Davis, and Dr. McCormick, an associate researcher at UC Berkeley, will facilitate the message board and will post information of interest to graduate students. We will also plan a graduate student event during microwave week.
